The ministry of Jesus models for us the spiritual importance of retreat. A retreat is an invitation: “Beloved, come away with me for a while.” It is a chance to sit at the feet of Jesus.“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
(Mark 6:31)

-

A Sacred Space group is a chance to step away from busy lives for a brief time for rest and reflection. Each three-hour session includes guided exercises, silence, journaling, and discussion. Weather permitting, Sacred Space will include backyard mini-retreats as together we watch the seasons unfold. Groups are limited in size. The same group meets for the entire series. • HOW TO DEAL WITH A PRICKLY PORCUPINE
    One-day Workshop Friday, September 2

Each of us often rubs shoulders with a porcupine, a difficult person we wished lived in Antarctica. There are the pessimists who believe every silver lining has a cloud, the passive aggressives (the dog who licks your hand before biting it), the depressives who depress us, and the others for whom we thank God we did not marry. We will explore the two hands that heal us: the right hand that sets boundaries so we can care for ourselves and find inner peace and the left hand that reaches out to create peace without becoming a prickly porcupine that blames or tries to fix another. This day (10-3) will explore the latest research on how the most panicky, picky, prickly porcupine can be the one who most heals us.

Presenter: Fr. Matt Linn, S. J. See below.

Fee: One-day workshop $50 (Includes a $20 non-refundable deposit)

  • SLEEPING WITH BREAD or FINDING THE LIFE IN OUR LIVES
    Friday – Sunday, September 2-4

During the bombing raids of WWll , thousands of children were orphaned and left to starve. The fortunate ones were rescued and placed in refugee camps where they received food and good care. But many of these children who had lost so much could not sleep at night. They feared waking up to find themselves once again homeless and without food. Nothing seemed to reassure them. Finally, someone hit upon the idea of giving each child a piece of bread to hold at bedtime. Holding their bread, these children could finally sleep in peace. All through the night the bread reminded them, “Today I ate and I will eat again tomorrow.” Similarly each day feeds us with many experiences but we hold few of them to become experienced people. Experienced people aren’t those who have had many experiences but those who have reflected upon and held closely whatever experience they had. This retreat will focus on examining and deepening the life in our past, present and future lives. We will deepen our positive memories and grieve the losses that we need to accept and can’t change. Then we will focus on healing the present where we feel ashamed or stuck. Finally we will discover how God is gifting us and calling us into a future where we can have even more life
