Highlighted Retreats

In twelve-step programs, people heal partly through the telling and sharing of their own stories. It is through the sharing of the trauma and pain and the subsequent healing that people form common bonds that unite them. To get beyond that connection of pain, they need to go further by sharing their soulful moments, their hopes, and their dreams. This requires re-establishing a relationship with their creativity and, through their higher awareness, connecting with others on a spiritual level. Using action methods offers exciting and effective ways to expand and enliven communication, learning, skill building and self- discovery in groups with those in recovery from substance abuse. Who can use these techniques? Substance abuse counselors who are helping clients to move through various stages of recovery. The techniques used here can be used for action interventions in groups, with couples, individuals. As clients move from talking about to exploring their problems in action, opportunities arrive to heal the past and clarify the present and to imagine the future.

Founded in 1996, Parbawatiya Center was the first center of Kadampa Buddhism to be established in Florida.
The Center owns a beautiful and peaceful house just off Main Street in downtown Safety Harbor. Situated conveniently close to the Courtney Campbell Causeway, the Howard Franklin Bridge, and US Highway 19 North, the Center is easily accessible from anywhere in the Tampa Bay area.
Just five minutes' walk from the famous Safety Harbor Spa, the Center offers a delightful spacious meditation room, bookstore, meditation garden, and comfortable sitting areas for socializing.
"Parbawatiya" (pronounced "Par-bah-wah-tee-ya") is the name of a female Buddha of Wisdom. This Sanskrit name literally means "Radiant Dawn" and refers to the blissful wisdom consciousness of an enlightened being.
