A Place of Peace and Renewal

Rolling Ridge is a retreat and conference center open to people of all faiths, and to a wide variety of groups and individuals who seek a time of rest and reflection, who desire new resources for living, who long for space to listen or to plan and create.

Rolling Ridge sponsors monthly retreats and programs focusing on spiritual formation and hosts many groups for day or overnight events. Private rooms for personal retreats are also available.

The 38 acres of woods, rolling hills and lakefront and the 40 room Georgian estate provide the setting and accommodations for you or your group. Rolling Ridge is a ministry of the New England Conference, United Methodist Church. The Director, Rev. Larry J. Peacock, and the staff look forward to meeting you.
The idea of a retreat is nothing new or radical. The impulse to retire from the confusion of complex life, to break away from well-worn habit, to escape the demands of ordinary life and to seek a place apart to rest, reflect and renew has always lain at the heart of the spiritual journey.

Within the Judeo-Christian tradition, we see how Jesus often withdrew to a quiet place to pray and urged his disciples to go apart and reflect about their mission.

Time away to look back and remember is one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the activity of God, to discover the meaning of life's experiences, to find hints of new directions.

Making a retreat, like most spiritual experiences, is a journey into solitude, then back into the human circle.

We cultivate artistic expressions of spiritual insight, and seek ways to embody these insights in compassionate social, environmental and political action.

THE ESSENCE OF CHRISTIAN MYSTICISM

A Retreat with Bernadette Roberts
Glastonbury Abbey
Hingham, Massachusetts
Bernadette Roberts is one of the most extraordinary contemplatives of our time. She began having mystical experiences as a child, and by grace she has lived on this path longer than any known Christian mystic. Living in the unitive state for 30 years in the “marketplace”, she came finally to the experience of “no-self”, and her accounts of the infused understanding of Christian truths that followed are stunning. In Bernadette, now 75, we have a living woman, writing and speaking in the American idiom, who exemplifies in flesh and blood, not New Age sentiment, what actually lies beyond self. This is our journey too.

POETRY AS PRAYER -
REFLECTIONS ON THE INCARNATION:
Directed by Rev. James David, M.Div.

For centuries poetry has been one of the sublime expressions of prayer for mystics. In our own day it is a common form of prayer and spiritual expression for many on the spiritual journey. Not all such expressions are published. In fact, few are. But all are deeply felt and cherished instances of spiritual insight for the writer. Poetry celebrates the truth that words are able to point to a reality which they cannot fully capture. The spiritual poet uses words to shed a light upon her or his experience of the "More than mere words can express." In this Advent season of mystery we seek to convene a gathering of such people - those who use poetry as a means to express their experience of the More. If you are a published poet or a one whose poetry is personal you are welcome - it matters only that poetry be a means of prayer for you, and that you are willing to share your prayer with others and allow them to share theirs with you. These Advent days together will include time for silent private prayer as well as group sessions during which we will share poetry and prayer. All poets are welcome.

Rev. Jim David, an author and poet, is one of the Directors of Evensong Retreat Center. Join Jim as he leads participants in these prayerful days of sharing poetry. The retreat begins on Thursday Evening and ends on Sunday at 11:00am. (Mass is available for those who wish at 11:30a.m.)

Fee: $400 per person includes room and board (Commuter fees available – please call).

INTENSIVE MINISTRY REFLECTION

Reflection Days in 2008
Thursdays

9:30 a.m.—3:00 p.m.
Choose: March 6, May 1
September 4
November 6
Leader: Alice Mann

With the demands of congregational ministry today, it is difficult for clergy
to maintain perspective, energy and self-direction. These professionallyled
ministry reflection days provide a setting where a pastor may receive
both individual and peer support, and regain a sense of clarity.
The structure is simple. Just four pastors will gather with Alice Mann
for a full day of group reflection, individual coaching, and discretionary
time to rest, journal or plan:

9:00—10:15 Prayer and small group sharing
10:30—2:45 Individual coaching sessions
Discretionary Time
Lunch available mid-day
2:45—3:30 Prayer and small-group sharing

You may register for one or more of these reflection days. Appointments
for therapeutic massage may be scheduled during the discretionary
time for an additional fee. For those coming from a distance, or desiring a
longer time apart, overnight guest accommodations may be arranged.

Before joining the staff of the Alban Institute in 1995, Alice Mann served for
two decades in the dual roles of local pastor and nationally recognized
consultant-trainer in the field of parish development. She has worked in depth
with clergy, congregations and denominational staff on challenges such
as incorporating new members; redeveloping struggling churches;
defining denominational roles in growth and revitalization; breaking through size
plateaus; and deepening the congregation’s spirituality.

She frequently assists congregations with self-assessment, long-range planning, and
the development of context-sensitive strategies for growth. In training
workshops, planning retreats, and individual coaching settings, Alice
engages leaders in practical learning and candid conversation about their ministry
choices and opportunities.

Seeing Who You Really Are Workshop

with Richard Lang

Friday May 30, and an all day workshop, Saturday May 31
Nahant, Mass, USA, about 15 miles north of Boston on the coast
headexchange@gn.apc.org

For more details and registration, contact Linda Tanfani asap at

CenterLane@comcast.net

The Headless Way offers you a practical, user-friendly way to see Who you really are. This method was developed by the philosopher Douglas Harding. At the heart of this approach are the Experiments - awareness exercises that guide your attention directly to your deepest identity. Visit our web site for more information.

Seeing Who You Really Are

Who are you really? Richard Lang will guide you through experiments invented by the philosopher Douglas Harding. These experiments test an amazing claim about you - at centre you are absolutely different from what you appear to be from a distance. From several metres you are human, but at centre you are not – you are Awake No-thing that is capacity for everything. Put in more traditional language, in appearance you are human but in reality you are divine. Your True Identity is God, Buddha-Nature, the One Self – choose your name! Richard will not ask you to believe this – he will invite you actually to look into your centre for yourself to see if this claim about you is true. And he will show you how to look into your centre so that you can, during this workshop, see your True Nature. This discovery can change your life. When you see Who you really are, you become one with the Source of all things. What greater discovery is there than this?

Richard Lang first discovered Who he really is when he attended a workshop with Douglas Harding in 1970. Since then he has devoted his life both to staying awake to his True Nature and to sharing Harding’s experiments that make so available this profoundest of discoveries. He has two books published - Seeing Who You Really Are and Open To The Source. He has written and compiled the content for the website www.headless.org He lives in London, co-ordinating the Shollond Trust – the UK charity set up to share this work. He also works as a psychotherapist, and teaches Tai Chi and Five Rhythms Dance.

The Ecstasy of Chant
Getting High on Mantra
Kripalu, MA
Sanskrit mantras are powerful spiritual pharmaceuticals. When used properly, they have extraordinary psychophysical effects. They are also karmically pure, chemical-free, and nonaddictive. Chanting mantra is a form of "divine therapy," a means of freeing your creative spirit and drinking deeply of the joy that results from making contact with the spiritual dimension of your being. Much easier than singing, chanting transports you rapidly and effortlessly into the ecstasy of spiritual practice.
