June 13 - 15: Traditions in relationships

The unity of AA and Al-Anon is a cherished quality in our fellowships. Our 12 Steps put our lives in order, but not necessarily our relationships. How to live successfully with others can be found within our Traditions. They are guidelines for our behavior. This weekend will focus on the use and application of the 12 Traditions in relation to having a healthy marriage or partnership. The ideas and principles have been used by many couples and they have been found to work.

The Family Program: McIver Family Center

Alcoholism is a disease that affects the entire family. At The Retreat, we recognize the need for family members and loved ones to embark upon their own spiritual journey of recovery. The Retreat Family Program allows those negatively impacted by alcoholism and drug dependency to begin the healing process and encourages family members and loved ones to further explore how their lives have been personally affected the disease. The Retreat Family Program gives participants the opportunity to better understand addiction, family dynamics and the process of recovery embodied in the Twelve Steps of Al-Anon.

The Family Program: participation will include

• Group Discussions
• Educational sessions on the 12 Steps & related topics.
• Al-Anon & AA meetings
• Individual meetings with program staff
• Family Conferences
• Personal Reflection
• Meals prepared by our award winning chef

Lay and Women Retreats

Course/retreat 1
July 10-13, 2008
Wilderness spirituality (Women only)

Many of us connect to the divine through nature. And we are beginning to see that our survival depends on our love of the world. Drawing on the wisdom of writers (such as Loren Eiseley, Sigurd Olson, Barbara Kingsolver, Sallie McFague) as well as the wild wisdom of the ancient beach rocks, the silent river mosses, the fragrant sphagnum bog, we will clarify our relationship to the world and draw strength from her.

Clergy Retreats

Course/retreat 1
July 14-18, 2008
Leading Congregations in Mission in a Post Christian World

As America enters an increasingly post-Christian, postmodern era, how can clergy and lay leaders move congregations into faithful mission without alienating members? Reflecting theologically and practically on promising developments in ecumenical missiology and ecclesiology, we will find our understanding of and engagement in God's mission for the church transformed.

Guest teacher, Dwight Zscheile, Ph.D., is professor of Congregational Mission at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN and an Episcopal priest. His teaching and research focus on theology of mission, church leadership, congregational transformation, evangelism, and mission in a postmodern, postcolonial era.

March 28-30, 2008
A Retreat for the Separated or Divorced : In the Palm of God’s Hand
Presenter: Adaire Lassonde, SSND - Director of the Office for Separated and Divorced

Sometimes it seems as if the light is NOT at the end of the tunnel! The journey is hard at times, and it doesn’t feel like we always have a choice in the direction we choose to take in our lives. We want to know that in this journey we have safety nourishment, trust and reassurance. We want to experience hope in the barren places to handle hardships we encounter.
To survive after separation or divorce, we need spiritual support. So we must know we are in the palm of God’s hand, that the hurt we most certainly experience will bring us to a closer union with the Divine.
