Located in the Old Village of Niagara Falls, near the entrance to the State Park and Goat Island, the Lavinia Porter Manse provides one of the most convenient access points to the waterfalls and major attractions. A short 100 yard walk places one within the park along the upper rapids. A three or five minute walk will then take you to the American, Bridal Veil or Horse-shoe waterfalls. The manse is the oldest mansion in the downtown tourist zone. It was built by Lavinia E Porter, the former Lady of the Mansion and owner of the waterfalls. The manse is decorated to reflect early American life.

|
| You will find the furnishings pleasant and comfortable in the large spacious rooms. Six spacious bedrooms and two full baths are located on the second floor. The wedding parlour, pastors' study which may be outfitted as a bedroom upon request , dining room, kitchen and restroom are located on the ground floor. A small morning sun porch is attached to the kitchen. |
|
The Lavinia Porter Manse is an ecumenical Christian facility operated by independent Christian missionaries and is offered to fellow Christians and others of peaceful faiths to partake of the facilities for retreat, assembly, and guidance while on pilgrimage to the Waterfalls at Niagara.
It provides a perfect setting for quiet, silent individual retreat.

We sponsor several signature retreats at Ashokan throughout the year, including Winter Weekend, Environment Weekend, and Outdoor Weekends. In addition, during the summer months and on weekends throughout the entire year, adult groups are invited to bring their own outside-sponsored retreats or conferences to Ashokan. You will find our food service exceptional, our housing and meeting accommodations comfortable. The peaceful and beautiful natural environment is conducive to relaxing and enjoying your time away from your daily routines. Our sauna is a popular spot to congregate in the evening after a full day of activities. Whether you bring your own program or use an Ashokan program, creative opportunities for learning and quality sharing abound during retreats at our campus. - ANGER MANAGEMENT/ ASSERTIVENESS TRAINING
From: Friday, April 9 To: Sunday, April 11
This retreat explores anger and its expressions, moving quickly from textbook definitions of anger to the more spiritual realm, in which, first and foremost, I accept that no one can make me angry, but I allow myself to become angry -- therefore, I am responsible for my own anger. Experiential and introspective exercises to help transform anger into productive feelings will drive the workshop, and assertive responses as a healthy expression of one’s thoughts and feelings will be practiced. Because lack of forgiveness is connected to anger, a section of the workshop will go deeply into forgiving as a means to free the self from the pain and hurt caused by anger.
Facilitator: Carol Gill is a student and teacher of Raja Yoga and a corporate training and development professional who takes pleasure in creating workshops in which spiritual principles are applied to worldly knowledge and situations.
- INNER PEACE - INNER POWER - THROUGH RAJA YOGA MEDITATION
From: Friday, April 16 To: Sunday, April 18
Learn Raja Yoga, a practical and simple form of meditation and spiritual understanding that sets the foundation for ongoing spiritual development. It is about discovering, exploring and understanding one’s inner world of thoughts, feelings, attitudes, values, motives and intentions and developing the spiritual skills and inner strengths to face the realities of the outer world. As we practice the art of bringing inner and outer realities into balance, we start from the inside out. You'll become more aware of your internal environment, enabling you to check, choose and change. You will reinforce that you always have a choice in what you think. You will learn to be more kind, tolerant and accepting of yourself and others. In this process, you will start to recognize your spiritual independence and realize the inner resources that you have, and your ability and responsibility to use them to create a better quality of life. The retreat also includes ways to restore your relationship with your Higher Power and increase the understanding of how to apply spiritual powers in your life.
- POWER OF THE PEN
From: Friday, June 11 To: Sunday, June 13
This weekend will combine spiritual practices such as reflection and meditation with writing practices such as free association drills and short essays. We will experiment with the ways that deep inner stillness and soul-consciousness can elevate the clarity and truth of our writing, bringing us deep understanding of the self and closeness to God.
Here is a retreat that will help you to use your writing to deepen your spiritual awareness, and your spiritual awareness to enrich your writing. You do not need to be a seasoned writer to attend this workshop. Just someone who likes to write and has the desire to enrich the spiritual dimension of your life.
This weekend will combine spiritual practices such as reflection and meditation with writing practices such as free association drills and short essays. We will experiment with the ways that deep inner stillness and soul-consciousness can elevate the clarity and truth of our writing, bringing us deep understanding of the self and closeness to God.
You will receive a short pre-retreat writing exercise once you have registered. This will help to bring more benefit to the retreat experience.
Facilitator: Judy Rodgers is a communications strategist and writer whose projects have contributed to strengthening the role of media as a constructive force in society.

Come away
Take refuge
Slow down
to the monastic rhythms of each day and the rhythms of your own breath.
As we prepare for Christmas, the celebration of the incarnation of God’s love for us, let us cultivate a grateful heart: slow down to the rhythms of your breath to let go of stress, enter the present moment, and open to God’s presence. We will pray with our bodies to songs which express God’s love for us.
No previous experience of yoga is necessary; all postures and sequences can be modified for any body. Yoga can deepen devotion by: releasing tension, aligning body
with spirit, and tapping into gifts of core strength and integration. It is a remarkable way to pray: not performance but inwardly focused. And above all, it is accessible to all.
Holy Cross Monastery, nestled on twenty six magnificent acres on the banks of the Hudson River in the Catskills, is home to an open-hearted Episcopal Benedictine community. A beautiful place to enter a time of prayer, reflection, renewal and recreation. You are invited to join the monks in their services or have private time.
The delicious food is prepared by a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.

On Going Events at the Lodge
A Course In Miracles Study Group
Date: Monday Mornings Hours: 9:30 AM
Whether you are new to the Course or been at it for years, if you would like to study ACIM, come join us. Just bring yourself and ACIM book if you have one. The basic concept of the Course is that we are all equal Spiritual Beings, connected to our Source. The Course is here to assist us in releasing our attachment to guilt, judgment and fear, and to realize that love is who we are, and love is the only thing that is real. We explore concepts of the Course such as:
* If you will accept yourself as God created you, you will be incapable of suffering.
* What is God's belongs to everyone, and is his due.
* Spirit knows no difference between having and being.
* Sin is defined as "lack of love".
* There is no order of difficulty in miracles.
* Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.
