FATHER MENINGER: THE ENNEAGRAM

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
607 N. Greene Street
Greensboro, NC

JUNE 20, 2009
10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m

Father Meninger was one of the founders of the Centering Prayer movement (along with Thomas Keating and Basil Pennington) and has written widely and recorded numerous audiotapes on contemplative prayer. Fr. Meninger grew up in the Boston area. His mother was from County Kerry and his father was a Quaker from Pennsylvania. He entered the Trappist monastery at Spencer, Massachusetts in 1963 where, in 1974, he originated the workshops on Centering Prayer which he now teaches worldwide along with workshops on Forgiveness, the Enneagram, Sacred Scripture, and Prayer. In 1979 he was transferred to St. Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass, where he has remained. He spent three years in Israel where he studied scripture and taught at the Center for Biblical Studies in Jerusalem and at the Trappist Monastery at Latroun. Father William leaves the monastery only four times a year in order not to lose his own monastic orientation while sharing it with others. Father Meninger led a four day retreat on Centering Prayer at St. Francis Springs Retreat Center near Greensboro last October.

The workshop is sponsored by the Servant Leadership School of Greensboro and the 4th Day Journey (a retreat mission group).
Reservations may be made by calling 336-288-8544 or you may email a reservation to www.4thdayjourney.org or mail your check (made out to Nexus Initiatives) to P.O. Box 9218, Greensboro, NC 27429.
Directions to Holy Trinity will be provided upon registration.
Recommended reading for the retreat (not required) is The Wisdom of the Enneagram by Russ Hudson.

The cost is $55.00 which includes lunch.

Pierrette R. Stukes, PhD

Spiritual Director, Workshop Facilitator,
and Retreat Leader

West Jefferson, NC

Pierrette received her PhD in English Literature in 2002 from The George Washington University with a specialization in psychoanalysis and culture theory. She has taught at colleges and universities since 1990. In January 2009, Pierrette completed the two-year Spiritual Direction Program at the Haden Institute. She is a certified spiritual director in the Jungian tradition. Her programs mine the intersection of spirituality and psychology. She has been offering compassionate hospitality to others since 2006. She would welcome the opportunity to come to your community and facilitate a program.

Our Mission: Heart Directions, Inc. is a ministry of compassionate service. Our programs are grounded in the philosophy of spiritual hospitality which is a way of being present with you in an atmosphere of mutual respect and holy reverence so that both you and the facilitator may listen for the Spirit at the center of your life. We are post-denominational in emphasis. Our programs integrate various spiritual traditions to honor and to enable an experience of God that transcends cultural representations. Heart Directions, Inc. does not offer therapy, counseling, or advice; nor are its programs academic in nature. Instead, its facilitator creates a sacred space in which individuals may explore for themselves the spiritual integration of the psyche, the soul, the mind, the heart, and the body.
