St. Joseph Institute - Spiritual Retreats & Programs
134 Jacobs Way
Port Matilda, PA 16870

(814) 692-4954
www.stjosephinstitute.com

The retreats offered by the Institute use various models and teaching methods that we developed over a number of years. They have been tested and refined in our work with individuals, couples, and organizations. The design provides profound opportunities for participants to understand themselves and their relationships in the realms of spiritual growth, healing and improved well-being both personally and professionally. Many of the programs introduce our model for Critical Life Skills. This model is based on a foundation of building strong relationships through which we can develop effective skills in communication, decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Growth in these areas can be the best prevention against crisis that can damage relationships and undermine personal and professional well-being.

General Information

All retreat programs begin at 7:00 pm on Friday evening and end after lunch on Sunday (1:30 pm). Participants can check in after 3:00 pm on Friday.

The cost of the retreat, including meals and accommodation is $229 for individuals and $375 for couples. Single rooms, if available, are an additional $100 for the two night stay. A deposit of $50 is required at the time of your reservation. Please call to register.

Grief Ministry: WhenThu, Jun 26, 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Description"Gone From Our Sight" is a grief ministry program that offers the bereaved time to remember, share, reflect, and pray as he/she navigates the turbulent waters of life's most difficult journey. Those struggling with grief are invited to come together with others who are also mourning the loss of a loved one for and evening of comfort, healing and hope. Reservations are helpful but not necessary.

Cups of Kindness Morning: WhenWed, Jul 16, 1:00pm – 2:30pm

DescriptionPerforming random acts of kindness is a wonderful antidote to the reality of random acts of violence. What would our world be like if each day, each of us performed a random act of kindness—something nice and unexpected for someone, anyone, whether we knew them or not? As we gather each month, we will prepare and assemble single servings of a variety of dry mix soups, breads, etc. which will then be distributed to the local food bank, soup kitchen, and area churches for distribution to their shut-ins. By simply adding water and/or a few other ingredients provided with the mix, the recipients will have a light, hot meal. The group will also discuss and reflect on the different aspects of kindness that we should exemplify as Christians. For those who are able to do so, donations of ingredients or money for their purchase will be accepted. Please register prior to the gathering.

    A Mindfulness Course for Educators with Richard Brady and Wynne Kinder

    How can we approach our work as educators from a place of inner peace and convey that peace to our students? Drawing on several contemplative traditions, instructional approaches, and research findings, we will share a variety of meditative practices and techniques, including Zen, vipassana and guided meditation, and mindful movements. Some of these techniques enhance well being; others promote deep connection with oneself, with others, and with the world. We will explore how we might use these practices in our school setting and hear from participants who are already integrating meditation and mindful movement practices into their lives and classrooms.

    A workshop with Jeremy Taylor

    Using group projective dreamwork, celebrated dreamworker Jeremy Taylor will help us experience the meaning of our dreams. Find the universal in the particular and the political in the personal by drawing on the myths and sacred narratives of the world and on archetypes – the symbols that arise spontaneously from our own psyches and simultaneously surround and support us. Our dreams reflect the deepest truths about our interior lives in exquisite symbolic detail. They also reflect the society and culture we inhabit in the same elaborate, poignant, and accurate way. Jeremy will explore the connection between our dream selves, our waking selves, and the direction we're moving in as a society.

Few events change one's life as deeply as a sacred pilgrimage taken to recharge the spirit and return us to wholeness of mind and body.
Awaken your inner joy as you experience one of our workshops for either personal growth or training!

Similar to a pilgrimage Souldrama takes us through seven doors of spiritual transformation: each door leads us to a higher level of spiritual growth and transformation as we:

  • accept the call to journey for a specific purpose;
  • find the faith in our vision needed to set out;
  • learn how to invoke the strength of spirit;
  • learn how to allow the spirit to speak and work through us in order to persist;
  • gain control over the obstacles that slow us down or cause resistance;
  • learn how to connect with our spiritual intelligence and upon arrival
    at the destination of our pilgrimage;
  • return to our home community,bringing back the blessings obtained.

This Workshop is for personal growth or training.

What is soul? And how do we live a soulful life? People everywhere are searching for well-being: for meaning, purpose, fulfillment, health and happiness. For life to be good, we need to feel useful and appreciated.
And we long for great relationships - to love and to be loved. Behind all of these human desires is the creative impulse of soul. It moves through each of us and through the world we create. And when we can understand, love and respond to soul, we find meaning in all of our experiences - even the difficult ones. Join us in on the journey forward to self discovery....

Souldrama is a therapeutic psychospiritual group action model
that leads participants through seven sequential doors of spiritual development with the goal accessing our spiritual intelligence in all areas including relationships and careers. It can help group members move past resistance to recognize and move on to their higher purpose, therefore creating spiritually intelligent leadership. Psychodramatically based, it is intended to be used as multi disciplinary training system that combines the mind, body and spirit to create a therapeutic energy within a group process to foster spontaneity and creativity. Souldrama allows the soul to become a co-creator in a person's life and this is the soul's mission to co-create!

Our Workshops are designed to:

  • Transform and renew your relationships.
  • Illuminate your spiritual gifts.
  • Overcome the fears that prevent you from moving forward.
  • Increase your self esteem.
  • Discover what unique gifts, talents and skills you bring into this world.
  • Discover what specific issues represent your life challenges.
  • Discover what gives your life meaning and purpose.
  • Create spiritually intelligent leadership.
  • Develop clarity, passion and personal power.
  • Identify your values, virtues, qualities and talents.
