St. Joseph Institute - Spiritual Retreats & Programs
134 Jacobs Way
Port Matilda, PA 16870

(814) 692-4954
www.stjosephinstitute.com

The retreats offered by the Institute use various models and teaching methods that we developed over a number of years. They have been tested and refined in our work with individuals, couples, and organizations. The design provides profound opportunities for participants to understand themselves and their relationships in the realms of spiritual growth, healing and improved well-being both personally and professionally. Many of the programs introduce our model for Critical Life Skills. This model is based on a foundation of building strong relationships through which we can develop effective skills in communication, decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Growth in these areas can be the best prevention against crisis that can damage relationships and undermine personal and professional well-being.

General Information

All retreat programs begin at 7:00 pm on Friday evening and end after lunch on Sunday (1:30 pm). Participants can check in after 3:00 pm on Friday.

The cost of the retreat, including meals and accommodation is $229 for individuals and $375 for couples. Single rooms, if available, are an additional $100 for the two night stay. A deposit of $50 is required at the time of your reservation. Please call to register.

September 17 - 19
WALKING ON WATER: HEALING THE PETER WITHIN US

(Begins 7 p.m. Friday and Concludes with Mid-Day Meal on Friday)

Within each of us there is a Peter: one who tries to walk on water in life's storm and fearfully sinks. We find our hollowness as we try to please others and swing from angrily boasting ("I will follow you even if no one else does!") to shamefully lying ("I don't even know the man!"). We get discouraged as we fish all night and catch nothing. We struggle with how to repair broken relationships and to say, "You know that I love you." We, in our second half of life, need to make Peter's journey in order to experience Jesus healing our fear, anger, guilt, shame and grief to transform us from "Simon" the broken to "Peter" the rock, most gifted disciple.

Presenter: Fr. Matthew Linn, S.J. Fr. Linn is a member of the Jesuit community in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has written extensively and given retreats on themes of healing all over the United States as well as internationally.

Relationships in Recovery

Life always brings problems. We really can't live without them. And so it helps to shift our perspective. We can stop trying to avoid the problems. We can stop feeling victimized by whats happening. Instead, we can consciously work with the challenge of the moment to learn more about ourselves and the world. When we make this shift in attitude, we discover ourselves to be strong and powerful.

Regardless of how many times you've worked on your relationships with yourself or others, by exploring your problems throough action, you can see and experience them in a new and different way. This group is open to everyone including those from all 12-Step Fellowships and will serve as a safe, supportive place to:

  • Increase your insight and awareness
  • Break through barriers that are inhibiting your continued growth
  • Deepen your spiritual connection
  • Develop new solutions to old problems
  • Increase your clarity

Why Chrysalis?
The butterfly has been a symbol of transformation and new life in both the Christian faith tradition and in the recovering community.

Find God in all things...

Pat is a certified spiritual director and retreat leader who marvels at the profound love our God has for each of Her/His creations. He is a graduate of the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University and is completing his MA in Pastoral Ministry at Boston College in 2008. He is directing retreats focused on discernment this summer:

Changing jobs? Moving? Graduating? Turning 30, 40, 50 or 60? Retiring? Feeling called to action, but not sure where to go? We all face many times of transition in life. They are often bewildering.

This might be the time that you will benefit from a discernment retreat. You may not come away from the retreat with a clear answer to your dilemma, but you will leave it confident in the love and guidance of the Holy Spirit and with a clearer sense of the next steps you need to take.

Discernment is a gift of wisdom that has been passed down by the holy women and men who came before us. Practicing discernment helps us open our hearts to watch and listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

A Directed Retreat provides an ideal setting for discernment. It gives us the time to find the quiet places of our heart. Pat will serve as a director on individually directed retreats at four retreat houses around the country this summer.
