The Carpenter's House is a place of spiritual hospitality for building relationships with God. We believe in the power of human connection to welcome and experience God.

We host others to foster intimacy with God and self as they ask who they are - and who they are becoming. We are in the Christian tradition, but welcome persons of any faith, or no faith, who believe we might be of assistance. Whatever your spiritual path, our desire is to walk with you on it - not convince you to walk ours.

Our ministries:

  • Spiritual Direction
  • Weekly Formation Groups
  • Pastoral Care, Consultation, Connection
  • Workshops, Speakers, Trainings
  • Weekly Meditation

"Spiritual direction is something I was not familiar with, so I didn't really know what to expect. Since then, I've grown in intimacy with God, learning how to be silent and still and receive the gift of God's presence and attention."

There is an inner insistence toward wholeness and it is this that the moment, the experience of quiet, announces. It is a fearful announcement: "Bring in your scattered parts, be present at all levels of your consciousness. This is the time of togetherness. Only he who has come to a point of holy focus, may be blessed with the vision of God." Howard Thurman in Meditations of the Heart

Carey is an award-winning singer/songwriter and performer whose folk- and jazz-inspired music can bring your heart and mind to a better place through poetry, pathos and humor--with a little backbeat.
The songs Carey performs are never preachy or doctrinaire, yet they invite the listener to dig deep--and you can hear both Saturday night and Sunday morning in her music.
She has a lofty goal: to affect people the way one critic wrote about her work. "Carey Creed is...well, different. Thank God! She infuses [the lyrics] with such expression, such spirit, that they are literally transformed into some higher, more precious metal, and one is aware of witnessing a quiet miracle." (Anna Garris Goiser, Women Today).

"Creed has a lovely voice, a soprano that brings a certain purity to the performances on 'Peace of Wild Things.' Creed's voice is as warm as it is naturally tuneful...Many well-known performers in the Washington area contribute to the album's charms..."
    Mike Joyce, The Washington Post
