Pat is a certified spiritual director and retreat leader who marvels at the profound love our God has for each of Her/His creations. He is a graduate of the Ignatian Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University and is completing his MA in Pastoral Ministry at Boston College in 2008.
Pat is thankful for the impact the Spiritual Exercises have had on his life since he silently celebrated his 20th birthday while making the 30-day retreat in 1974. He has led retreats and discernment workshops for a wide variety of church and social service organizations. He is married to Jeannie Cleary-Burns and lives in South Euclid, Ohio.
He is directing retreats focused on discernment this summer (2009):

Changing jobs? Moving? Graduating? Turning 30, 40, 50 or 60? Retiring? Feeling called to action, but not sure where to go? We all face many times of transition in life. They are often bewildering.
This might be the time that you will benefit from a discernment retreat. You may not come away from the retreat with a clear answer to your dilemma, but you will leave it confident in the love and guidance of the Holy Spirit and with a clearer sense of the next steps you need to take.
Discernment is a gift of wisdom that has been passed down by the holy women and men who came before us. Practicing discernment helps us open our hearts to watch and listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
A Directed Retreat provides an ideal setting for discernment. It gives us the time to find the quiet places of our heart. Pat will serve as a director on individually directed retreats at four retreat houses around the country this summer.

Inner Harmony is dedicated to the journey of transformation of body, mind, and spirit. Life transitions, relationships and our busy life styles all challenge our ability to live a life that is satisfying and fulfilling. With increasing demands, time to connect with self, others and God becomes less of a priority--often out of necessity. We often forget who we are and why we are on this planet. Inner harmony will help to reconnect you to what is most important, which is transformation of body, mind and spirit. This transformation will lead to a life that is more harmonious and balanced. Isn't that what we are all seeking?
Inner Harmony (formally Inner Balance .Org) was founded in 2001, by Dr. Kathryn Royer. The center offers individual and group consultations, classes, workshops, retreats, and seminars for persons who desire to have more satisfying relationships with self, others and God. Kathryn is a dynamic and motivating speaker who has led workshops and retreats internationally.
Health and healing have been areas of passionate interest in Kathryn's life work. For over 30 years Kathryn has practiced the art of healing as a nurse and spiritual director. She brings to Inner Harmony life experience not only as spiritual director and nurse, but also as a visionary leader, and teacher.
Kathryn holds a AAS in nursing, a BA in psychology, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctorate in Ministry in Spiritual Direction. She is also a teacher of the Enneagram and systems theory in organizations, is a Reike practitioner, and is an ordained minister. Kathryn has experience working with persons from many cultures and faith backgrounds. In addition, she has experience in working with those who struggle with addictions, abuse, grief, sexuality issues, life transitions, vocation, divorce, and groups. Kathryn is a supervisor and teacher for students of spiritual direction.

Welcome to Healthy Belief -- Healthy Spirit Seminars by Dr. Linda Mercadante. For over 20 years, I have been helping people grow a healthier spirituality through good theology. It is my belief that bad theology kills, but good theology helps your spirit thrive! Our beliefs do matter. In fact, beliefs play an integral part in every aspect of our lives: our thoughts, our actions, our hopes and our relationships. Bad theology can be linked to such human tragedies as addiction, domestic violence, sexism, prejudice, victimization, and other problems.
Linda Mercadante knows first-hand how it feels to live without a clear spiritual identity. Born into an immigrant, working class mixed-faith, mixed ethnic household in the rough urban environment of Newark, NJ, she experienced prejudice, lack of acceptance, and the uncertainty that comes from not having a spiritual home. She went through years of searching, travel, and exploration in her quest for a spiritual identity. In the process, she earned a Ph.D. in theology from Princeton, became ordained, and found a vocation in seminary teaching. She is dedicated to helping others find a spiritual identity that can allow their spirits to come home.
You can read Dr. Mercadante's story in her most recent book: Bloomfield Avenue: A Jewish-Catholic Jersey Girl's Spiritual Journey [Rowman & LIttlefield, Cowly Imprint, 2006]. Dr. Mercadante is a prolific author of more than 50 articles and five books, she lectures internationally, conducts seminars to a wide variety of audiences, and teaches on such topics as addiction recovery, gender and theology, faith and film, and spiritual memoir writing.
Dr. Mercadante is B. Robert Straker Professor of Historical Theology at The Methodist Theological School in Ohio, a member of the Scioto Valley Presbytery, and an active participant in many professional groups including, The American Academy of Religion and The Workgroup on Constructive Theology. She is a Fellow of The Center of Theological Inquiry at Princeton and The Ecumenical Institute at St. John's University. She has received numerous grants from such groups as The Louisville Institute and The Association of Theological Schools. She has served as Visiting Scholar in Media & Theology at The University of Edinburgh (Scotland). Please contact Dr. Mercadante for a full resume and bibliography.
