Among the many events held at Am Kolel Sanctuary, there are groups that offer retreats that are open to the public. These retreats provide opportunities for new experiences, for expanding present talents, skills and abilities, and/or to deepen your own practices with an intentional group.

Attending these retreats can support your own growth and interests, the groups themselves, and Am Kolel Sanctuary's mission and vision to provide an environment that honors body, mind and spirit.

Check out our complete calendar and see if something strikes your fancy! And if you know of groups looking for a beautiful space to hold a retreat or training, please guide them our way.

The fundamental grace of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola can be found in the continual petition that is made "to know Jesus more intimately, to love him more intensely and so to follow him more closely." This year's retreat focuses our prayer on this petition and the deepening of our Christian life in this grace.

Dayspring Retreat Center
Germantown

Telephone: 301-916-1131

Retreat at Dayspring is a time to be silent, to expect an encounter with God in the interior and exterior silence made possible by the setting. Yet silence is always a gift, God's gift. We enter into retreat, rest, and are still; we wait, are open, and receptive.
We are pleased to offer a schedule of silent retreats providing opportunities for prayer and solitude in an ambience of natural beauty, order, and tranquility.

Believing that our world provides too little time and space for listening to God and that prayer is central to the Christian life, we offer these retreats as time set aside for dialogue with God, meditation, and contemplation.

Our retreats are designed to provide you with a broad range of choices, both in content and time frame, to deepen your spiritual journey. Our leaders are men and women of mature personal faith who are experienced and skillful in guiding others into silence and meditation.

The setting of woods and fields, the quiet of Merton's Pond, and the warmth of the Lodge and Inn are here to welcome you in your search for silence. The Inn houses 18 retreatants, affording each person a private room, furnished simply with a desk, bed and chair. Dayspring's two hundred acres are available for walks by the streams and through the woods and meadows, while two ponds and a lake await those who are drawn to quiet waters.

Friday Evening—Reduced to Joy, An Evening Mark Nepo
Beloved as a poet, teacher, and storyteller, Mark Nepo, the New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Awakening, has been called “one of the finest spiritual guides of our time,” “a consummate storyteller,” and “an eloquent spiritual teacher.” His many books have been translated into more than twenty languages. Now in his sixties, he has recently published Reduced to Joy, a book of seventy-three poems, retrieved and shaped over the last thirteen years, about the nature of working with what we’re given till it wears us through to joy.

Saturday—Seven Thousand Ways to Listen: A Workshop Guided by Mark Nepo
This workshop is based on Mark’s recent book, Seven Thousand Ways to Listen which won the 2012 Books for a Better Life Award.
We spend much of our time on earth listening and waking. When awake, we come upon the risk to be authentic. And taking that risk, we are faced with the need to stand by our core in order to live life fully. If we get this far, we are returned, quite humbly, to the simple fate of being here. And after all this way, it appears that a devotion to deep listening remains the simple and sacred work of being here.
